How is this system different from other inkjet based CTP Systems?
The key to this direct to plate system is the revolutionary processless plates and the plate oven. These metal and polyester plates are designed for use with standard Epson inkjet printers and standard Epson pigment based inks. The Epson 4880 and 7880 models can be used with the standard Epson UltraChrome® K3 inks, and the Epson 7900 and 9900 models can be used with used with the standard Epson UltraChrome® HDR inks. The plate imaging process does not involve proprietary chemicals or waste, and does not use any hazardous solvents like other inkjet based CTP systems on the market.

What run length and quality will the VIM inkjet system produce?
The VIM-JT plates are engineered for durability. Both the polyester and aluminum plates can produce up to 20,000 impressions per plate, fully covering the production volume needs of small and medium sized printers. The print quality produced by the VIM CTP system is equally impressive. This system can produce excellent 150 lines per inch results with halftone screening and apparent 175 lines per inch quality using stochastic or frequency modulated screening techniques.

What are the advantages of VIM JT Direct Inkjet plates?
VIM JT Direct Inkjet plates are distinguished from other CTP systems by the following facts:
1. Affordable – Low cost of ownership compared to standard CTP systems
2. User Friendly – Easy to use software and hardware
3. Compact – Requires very little space to setup and operate
4. Processless Plates – No chemicals needed in post image process
5. Standard Epson Inks - Saves you money because you do not need to buy proprietary based inks
6. Environmentally Friendly
7. Saves your Epson Warranty - Because there are no special inks or solvents you do not void the Epson warranty

What press machines are supported by VIM JT plates?
VIM JT plates can be mounted and printed on all standard water based offset presses.

Are oil and rubber based inks supported by VIM JT plates?
Oil based and rubber based inks will work with the VIM plates, but it would require a watering system to keep the plate wet. Typically the water consists of a fountain solution like VARN Universal Pink or something similar.

Do I need special training to use the VIM JT direct to plate system?
If you are an experienced prepress operator you will have no difficulty installing and using this CTP system. We include 90 days of technical support including WebEx Online Support so we can assist with the configuration and setup of both the RIP and the equipment. On-site installation is available.

What will I need to have on-site prior to installation?
You will need to have a computer running Windows 2000, 2003 or XP (32 bit edition). This computer will run the RIP software and will allow you to print from both Macintosh and Windows based computers to the RIP. We offer preconfigured computer packages for customers that would like to have the RIP software preinstalled. You will also need to have a 220/240 V Electrical Connection for the oven. It is recommended that if you are going to be printing to the software across the network that you also have a network cable ready for the RIP computer.

How is this system calibrated?
RTI includes 90 days of technical support and includes calibration services if done within the technical support period. RTI can assist you with calibrating the Epson CTP device as well as the press. The RIP also includes some default calibrations for the Epson device.

What makes this CTP system environmentally friendly?
VIM plates are environmentally sound and easily recyclable, delivering a long list of eco-friendly benefits. They are not light sensitive and are imaged like any other inkjet media. They are waste free; no circulators are required and there is no disposal of anything. They are solvent free and process free, negating the need for cleaners, washes and other potentially harmful chemicals. VIM plates require no water. That means there is no plumbing, no draining, and no rinses or baths to affect the workplace or the environment. In production, VIM plates are compatible with soy, metallic and UV inks and alcohol-free dampening solutions, further strengthening their environmentally friendly nature.

What changes can I expect to my current workflow?
We have implemented the standard industry workflow so you can create your layouts and print via a network printer from Macintosh or Windows computers to the RIP. If you prefer, you may also import your PS or PDF files directly on the RIP computer. Files will then be processed and imaged on the Epson printer. Next the plates will be ready to place in the baking unit. After about 2 minutes the plates are ready for your offset press.

Digital Proof Capability
Because there are no special inks, your system can also be used as a digital proofer.
RIP Software
Print to the RIP through shared spoolfolders or shared printers.
Epson 4880/7880/7900/9900
Use a standard Epson printer and standard inks with the VIM plates to create exceptional looking output.
Baking Oven
Bakes the plates for approximately 2 to 5 minutes.
Offset Press
Plates can be mounted and printed on all standard water based 1-4 color offset presses.
